Happy Tuesday everyone 💥 We took one week off to gather some feedback on the Coliving Cocktail - it's been week 10 already! Thanks for being part of this journey. Next week, we'll launch a new version, which I'm really excited about.
To sum up, last week was spent organizing the Learning Exhbition in London and speaking at Freedom X Budapest. Currently in Lisbon, I'm about to attend the Brave New World of Real Estate conference and enjoying the NomadX coliving space. More updates next week, so let's dive into some juicy news 😋
SPACE10 LAUNCHES URBAN VILLAGE PROJECT
How could a more interconnected neighbourhood look like? That is what Space10, in partnership with architecture studio EFFEKT, has been tackling with their newest urban village concept. The proposal is built around the three central ideas that cities should be more liveable, more sustainable and more affordable. It includes partial ownership options in terms of vesting, shared spaces from work and dining areas, subscription-based living, and the ability for families to swap apartments. Space10 even developed the design for managing services on an app.

THE TRANSFORMATION AROUND “APARTMENT HOTELS”
More hotels are entering the coliving game. Labeled as apartment hotels, groups such as Marriott, Lyric and even AirBnb have started with short-term apartment rental in shared spaces (note: AirBnb also bought HotelTonight last month).
55+ COLIVING OPENS UP
You might remember Janette Ledwith. With over 60 years old, she just launched her first coliving space for seniors at Oak Hill. What’s extraordinary: she created the concept and design herself, adapted to home to senior-adaptability, and even included a guest room. All that to offer a financially more viable alternatives for her peers.
BIGGEST COLIVING DEVELOPMENT APPROVED
With more than 800 units, Starcity is about to start building the world’s largest coliving space in San Jose, California. The company also secured another 200+ unite site in San Francisco. What’s interesting: the larger building will be developed around the concept of “vertical communities”, and how the company wants to appeal to affordable housing.
FROM COWORKING TO COLIVING
Some coworking spaces use their audience to successfully launch coliving spaces. Coworking space Ziferblat (UK) is now going to open its first 15-people coliving space, giving residents access to all its coworking spaces. Others in that domain include Dojo Coworking (Bali), Studio22 (Phillippines) and Station F (1000-startup coworking center in Paris).
INSIDE THE INDIAN MARKET
According to the latest Knight Frank study, India’s demande for Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) totals more than eight million bed spaces. The coliving market for professionals is rising as well. Take a look at how Housr, a coliving company in India, grew to managing 10,000 units in a few years only.
DONATING A COLIVING SPACE TO CHARITY
Chinese real estate developer group Chinachem offered an 16-unit communal housing space in Hong Kong to support underprivileged families. Operated by a welfare association social center, the initiative falls under the Community Housing Movement, an government-supported organisation in Hong Kong that promotes medium-term housing for families in need with transitional housing.
DEAR PRESS: COLIVING IS NOT THE NEW COWORKING 🤔
Explaining the key misconceptions from comparing coliving as the next coworking. "By putting coworking and coliving next to each other, one associates aspects of the coworking industry to the coliving trend, which brings in misconceptions that hinder the development of the coliving industry." It's time to explore the consequences of that branding.
